The sounds of Jacksonville: A look at local musicians' records

Music is, to borrow the title of a recent local CD, alive and well and living in
Jacksonville.
Next year should see new major label releases from Burn Season and Trouble Is, two
Jacksonville bands hoping to become stars. This year has seen several local artists
release their own indie records, trying to build an audience at the grass roots level.
Here now is a glance at some of the recent releases, where you can find them and where you
can catch the artists in concert:
Island Boyz -- Gettin It All: The Island Boyz -- T-Rez and Ra Cleazy -- are much
more interested in beats than their North Florida hip-hop counterpart, Nat. They are, as a
result, the more commercial-sounding hip-hop act. They have stuttering bass lines and
guest vocalists singing on their hooks, just like the stars.
The Island Boyz' flow falls somewhere between Nelly and Andre from OutKast, and they get
extra credit for an album cover featuring the band members posing on a piece of driftwood.
The Island Boyz will perform Nov. 16 as part of the North Florida New Music Festival at
Metropolitan Park. Gettin It All is available at Amelia Sounds record store and
